Seriously Google rocks. But that doesn’t mean all of their services are the best course of action for everyone. Just like a person that only needs email probably doesn’t have use for Google My Business; A small business without much capital or oversight may want to steer clear of Google AdWords. For the same reason that Google AdWords is recommended to so many, it may be one of the reasons Google AdWords is wrong for you.
Here are the 5 Reasons Google Adwords isn’t for you.
1. Paying for Clicks
Everyone knows that in order to use Google Adwords, you need to have a pre-determined advertising budget. Now this is fine, but if you are a small business, you might not have the capital actually needed to make your campaign successful. A few years ago, the click rates were low, but now they are typically more than $5 or more per click to the website. This may help increase your visitors because of the placement at the top of the Google search page, but it is not guaranteeing customers or even guaranteeing first page placement unless you are paying enough. In 2016, the majority of clicks are now costing up to $60 per click.
If you can afford to pay up to $60 per click whether or not these customers are buying on your website, then this is one of the reasons Google Adwords is a great feature for you. If you cannot, then continuing to get the most out of free services like Google Places or other lower cost options, such as Bing Ads.
2. It is Hard to Compete with Big Companies
Because AdWords is more on the expensive side, most small businesses and start up companies have a harder time competing with their bigger rivals. When AdWords first became open to use, it was effective for all businesses because anyone could launch a campaign and drive in high quality traffic for a fraction of the current prices. let’s say you are a new or small business wiling to spend $1,000 month on your AdWords campaign, but your rival can spend up to $300,000. This makes the price of the keywords you are interested in drive so high, that it is impossible to even get on the first page for a keyword that you are paying for!
3. Limited Number of Characters
Writing slogans or ads that effectively support your product is not easy. With AdWords the headline is 25 characters and two 35 characters for the body. Many companies can’t even fit their company name into 25 characters. Just be careful with how you word things, and you will be fine, but it does make it more difficult and tricky.
4. Mistakes Will Cost You
Spelling mistakes, forgot to add in the landing page, or are not spending any time on the website while you run the ad, when the campaign was over never turned the ad off, confusing your AdWords account with Analytics etc. These are all common mistakes that can be made with a Google Adwords ad.
5. It Doesn’t Fit Your Goals
If you are a company with many services and offerings, it will be hard to convey in an ad each of these services. Of course, you can run ads and figure out over time which service gets the most return on investment with the ads (costly). For other businesses, their readers use the translation options and your website doesn’t make sense in those words or you are in a niche field. Other ad services are out there that will reflect more of the audience that you are looking for. Before starting a profitable Google Adwords campaign, as always do your research!
